Ontario Small Business Support Grant Now Available

In response to the shutdown measures beginning December 26, 2020, the provincial government is offering one-time grants of a minimum of $10,000 and up to $20,000 to eligible businesses to help navigate the new province wide shutdown.

Who is eligible?

Businesses that:

  • Were required to close or significantly restrict services subject to the Ontario province wide shutdown on December 26, 2020;
  • Have less than 100 employees
  • Can be expected to experience a minimum of 20% revenue declines as a result of the shutdown. This loss is will be determined by comparing revenue in April 2019 vs April 2020. New businesses established since April 2020 will also be eligible.

Registered Charities and Non-profit groups are also eligible to apply for funding, see the Application Guide for more information.


How to Apply

Apply for the grant on the Ontario COVID-19 Business Support Website

  • The province has included all funding resources under the same application
  • If you have already applied for previous funding from Ontario Government, including the property tax and energy bill rebates, select “resume application”.
  • If you have not applied for support funding in the past choose “apply for funding”. 

Prepare to disclose the following information for a quicker application process:

  1. Legal Business Name - Name consistent registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
  2. Your CRA business number – You must validate your business number before moving forward
  3. Contact information – Use the email address you wish to receive notifications about your application, a draft of your application will be sent to this email address
  4. Number of employees
  5. Business Sector
  6. Amount you’ve spent on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), you will be asked to attach any expense bills
  7. All business locations and date of occupancy
  8. If you pay property taxes for these locations and what type of energy costs you pay at these locations
  9. Property tax information including your property assessment roll number
  10. The approximate indoor square footage of your business
  11. Total 2020 annual business property taxes as noted on your final 2020 property tax bill
  12. Energy cost information – including charges from specific statements, amount you wish to claim and then uploading the statement
  13. Your banking account information for direct deposit

Property Tax and Energy Bill Rebates

The Property Tax and Energy Bill rebate is intended to cover offset fixed costs such as property tax and energy bills for businesses that are required to shut down or significantly restrict services due to provincial public health measures.

These rebates are not just for the most recent shutdown, they are for any shut down periods over the last year. Funding will cover the entire length of time that regionally targeted public health restrictions are in place.
